Welcome Students, Parents, Educators and Counselors

The Toussaint L. Hale Sr. Scholarship and Benevolence Fund Board of Directors is currently accepting applications for the 2025 T.L. Hale Scholarships. These awards are given annually to deserving seniors graduating from high schools in the Birmingham/Jefferson County metro area who are planning to pursue a college degree.

Scholarship Purpose

The Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting educational, charitable, and scientific endeavors. Since its incorporation on April 21, 1984, it has helped students transition from high school to college by providing financial assistance based on merit and need.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a graduating senior from a Birmingham or Jefferson County metro high school

  • Must plan to enroll in a college or university to pursue a degree

  • Must demonstrate outstanding character, community involvement, and academic achievement

Submission Process

Applicants must complete and submit a full application package that includes the following:

  • A completed scholarship application form (attached or downloadable)

  • A 500-word essay on the importance of leadership and community service, including school activities, community service projects, and leadership roles

  • An official copy of the high school transcript

  • ACT or SAT scores (unless applying test-optional)

  • Two letters of recommendation

  • A copy of the front page of the 2024/25 Student Aid Report showing the Student Aid Index (SAI)

All application materials must be submitted as a complete package.

How to Submit

Once the application and supporting documents are complete, they should be forwarded to P. O. Box 604 Birmingham, Alabama 35201.
